Waze is Coming to Ford SYNC 3

Ford Sync 3 with Waze

Although automotive technology, in general, has improved by leaps and bounds over the past few decades, few areas can compare with the improvements that have been made within in-car technology. Every new vehicle on the road today features a highly advanced navigation and infotainment system. Furthermore, most manufacturers take this level of connected technology one step further by enabling you to connect your smartphone or other mobile devices to your vehicle’s infotainment system in order to access an even wider range of apps and functions. Nonetheless, Ford is still set to break new ground after it recently announced a partnership with Waze to bring the crowd-funded navigation app to many of its new vehicles.

Waze Navigation Coming to a New Ford Near You

At the 2018 CES Consumer Electronics Show, Ford Motor Company announced that all new Ford vehicles with the SYNC 3 infotainment system will now have the capability to connect and display Waze’s GPS navigation directly through the vehicle’s touchscreen. Drivers simply have to connect their iPhone or Android into the SYNC 3 system using the built-in USB port and then access the Waze app on their phone to see it displayed on the infotainment system’s touchscreen. Once your phone is connected with Waze running, you will then be able to access all of the app’s functions, including user-created warnings, crowdsourced traffic updates, Talk to Waze voice commands, carpool lane navigation and more.

The Waze connection is powered by Ford AppLink SmartDeviceLink, which ensures that users will always be able to access the most up-to-date version of the app. Waze with your SYNC 3 system should be identical to using the app on your phone.

Which Ford Models Allow Access to Waze

Drivers looking to take advantage of the Waze app to ensure they never again get lost are in luck, as it is currently available on all 2018 Ford models that feature Ford Sync 3.0 or greater. In addition, older Ford models that feature SYNC 3 can also gain access to the Waze app by completing a USB or over-the-air update.

The recent partnership with Waze is only the beginning of Ford’s planned expansion, as the company has already announced that iHeartRadio and various other apps will soon be available through Ford AppLink. As well, SYNC 3 also gives drivers the ability to access a huge range of other apps by using either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Music, messaging, navigation and much more are available at your fingertips thanks to SYNC 3, which is yet another way in which Ford is pushing the envelope in terms of in-car technology.

The SYNC 3 infotainment system is available on all 2017 and 2018 Ford models, which means you can enjoy Waze and a range of other useful apps no matter which vehicle you choose. Still, with so many outstanding options available, deciding which new Ford is the best fit for your needs can be tricky.
