What's New for the 2018 Ford C-MAX?

The Ford C-Max is a unique take on the compact hybrid genre that completely upends the conventional wisdom about hybrid vehicles. Unlike many of its competitors, it is very attractive and stylish, is spacious and nicely laid out, and is even fun to drive! While this earned the C-Max quite a following, the six-year-old model is starting to show its age and is due to be replaced with a next-generation compact hybrid vehicle from Ford, which may or may not continue bearing the C-Max name. As such, the 2018 Ford C-Max is identical to the 2017 model, with the exception of the plug-in hybrid model, which is no longer available. However, it still remains an excellent choice that combines a good driving feel with utility, comfort and fuel economy in a unique way. If you are looking for a car that can cover a wide range of uses and perform well in all of them, then the 2018 Ford C-Max can be the right car for you.

2018 Ford C-MAX Interior

3 Exceptional Trims

The Ford C-Max generally feels more upscale than most of the other cars in the same class, thanks to quality interior materials and a good design. It also has a wide range of features split over two trim levels, each of which offers optional packages to further help you customize your car.

The C-Max SE is the base of the two models, and it is not without some nice standard amenities like a dual-zone climate control system, a power driver seat, Bluetooth and a backup camera. It has two optional equipment packages available. The first one adds a a power liftgate, rear parking sensors, and an upgraded infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen. The second one adds leather upholstery and heated seats and mirrors, as well as adding a power passenger seat. The C-Max SE can also be optioned with a moonroof as well.

The C-Max Titanium is the premium entry in the lineup, and includes all of the features of the two optional packages on the SE, with the exception of the power liftgate. That is part of the optional package for the Titanium, which also includes some active safety features, front parking sensors and parallel parking assist. Like the SE, it can also be equipped with a moonroof.

Under the Hood

2018 Ford C-MAXThe C-Max distinguishes itself by being fun to drive compared to most hybrids. It is powered by a combination of a 2.0-liter engine and two electric motors. Together, they output approximately 195 horsepower, which is a pretty hefty number for a compact hybrid. The C-Max moves quickly and responsively when you accelerate, with the power flowing through an efficient continuously variable automatic transmission to the front wheels. Its steering has a solid feel to it, making pointing the car in the right direction easy, while the sporty suspension helps it feel composed on the road and makes you forget about the car's height. It makes for a fun driving experience that is very rare to see in a hybrid car.

Standard Safety Gear That Is Hard to Beat

2018 Ford C-MAX RearAs a family vehicle, the Ford engineers have gone out of their way to give the C-Max a good set of safety systems. All C-Max models are equipped with a rearview camera, and the Titanium optional package also adds blind spot monitors and rear cross traffic alerts to help avoid both high-speed and parking lot collisions. In the case of a collision, the C-Max also performs well, with 'Good' scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety on all but one crash test, which the IIHS deemed 'Acceptable'. The 2018 C-Max is a safe vehicle, and an excellent choice for your next hybrid car.
