New F-150 Transmission Gets Rocket-Ship Style Display

Ford's new 10-speed automatic transmission for the bestselling F-150 is getting a spot on the truck’s cluster display, giving drivers the feel of a rocket-ship-style countdown. With the new display drivers will be able to see how the truck revs up its performance while doing the heavy-duty jobs it’s known for.

Ford’s new 10-speed transmission is a fantastic piece of tech that optimizes the truck’s acceleration and overall performance. Drivers will find three overdrive gears on the new transmission, as well as wide-span gear spacing that helps reduce drag. Both systems help achieve lower-numerical rear-axle rations that increase fuel efficiency.

And that’s not all, according to a Ford press release, “Smarter shift logic helps 2017 F-150 customers tow with improved confidence using tow/haul mode. All-new adaptive shift-scheduling algorithms monitor more than a dozen powertrain and driver control signals in real time – ensuring the right gear at the right time for an engaging driving experience, including in sport mode.”

The new transmission will be mated to a second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that produces a hefty 450 lb.-ft. of torque, which makes towing and hauling heavy loads a breeze.
