Ford, along with 19 other automakers, has signed a new safety pledge presented by the NHTSA. This new agreement says that these automakers will make automatic braking and other safety regulations standard on their cars by the year 2022.

Unlike in the past, this pledge was voluntary, which many people see as a triumph, as it showcases the care that automakers have for their customers. It also signals that the transition to these autonomous safety systems will come about more quickly.

“It’s an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx. “It’s a win for safety and a win for consumers."

Automatic braking systems use radar, cameras and other sensors to identify objects in the road, such as bicycles, other cars and even pedestrians. If the system senses any of these objects, it will either slow or stop the vehicle if the driver does not react in time.

It is exciting to see Ford continuing their commitment to safety in all of their new Ford cars and trucks. Visit us today to find out more about the many safety systems already available in our current stock of new and used vehicles in Colma.
