Ford is attempting to improve nighttime driving by creating two new headlight systems that will be able to identify pedestrians, animals and potential hazards. Known as Advanced Front Lighting System and Spot Lighting, the technologies utilize cameras to locate upcoming dangers and hard-to-see junctions, and illuminate the road allowing drivers to easily spot each one.

Advanced Front Lighting System

Ford's all-new Advanced Front Lighting System uses camera-based technology to improve visibility at night. Located in the rearview mirror base, the camera can identify lane markings and predict upcoming curves in the road. When the car approaches a junction or roundabout, the information gathered by the camera is used to widen the headlights, providing top-notch visibility.

Spot Lighting

The Spot Lighting system takes a different approach to nighttime visibility, using an infrared camera on the front of the grille to locate people and animals. It can identify a hazard up to 120 meters away and display the image on screen within the cabin in a red or yellow frame, depending on the level of potential danger and distance. With this ability in future Ford models, drivers will benefit from increased visibility when cruising the roads at night.

Take a look at the video below to see how Ford's new systems work and be sure to look out for their arrival on future models at Serramonte Ford.
