Specs at a Glance

The 2025 Ford Explorer has become a family favorite among SUVs. Its versatility, ample passenger and cargo space, and modern features make it a great choice. Here's a closer look at the differences between the Explorer Active and the Explorer Platinum.

Performance

Both trims come equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for smooth and efficient driving. While rear-wheel drive is standard, a 4WD system is available for added traction and off-road capability. When properly equipped, the Explorer can tow up to 5,300 pounds.

The Explorer Platinum offers an upgrade with an available 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, producing 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. This extra power increases the towing capacity to 5,600 pounds and delivers faster acceleration.

Appearance

The Explorer Active sports a modern look, featuring 18-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights. Buyers can choose from various colors, including Agate Black Metallic and Star White Metallic Tri-Coat.

The Platinum trim takes it up a notch with 20-inch alloy wheels and a distinctive grille, adding a bold and premium feel to the SUV's exterior.

Features

Standard features on the Explorer Active include the new Google-based Ford Digital Experience infotainment system with a 13.2-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Comfort features include heated front seats and three-zone automatic climate control. Other highlights include a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, keyless start, and a digital instrument cluster.

The Explorer Platinum enhances luxury with ventilated front seats that feature massage functions, a 980-watt Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, a wireless phone charger, leather seating, and a twin-panel sunroof.
