What's New For the 2019 Ford Edge?

For the 2019 model year, the Edge-a popular, critically acclaimed midsize crossover SUV from Ford Motors-gets a major overhaul as it hits the midway mark of its second production cycle. In addition to revised standard and optional feature availability, the Edge has a new top-level variant: the ST, which replaces the Sport trim of previous years.

Ford Edge has Four Trims & Countless Features for 2019

The 2019 Ford Edge, which seats up to five people, is available in four trims: SE, SEL, Titanium, and ST. This iteration of the Edge nameplate has more standard comfort and convenience features than previous entries in the second production cycle. Such features include cruise control, remote keyless entry with push-button engine start, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a Wi-Fi hotspot, FordPass Connect for smartphone-based remote access, the SYNC infotainment system, an AM/FM radio tuner, six-speaker audio, a smart-charging USB port, and a trial SiriusXM satellite radio subscription.

At the SEL, Ford upgrades the cloth seat trim, wraps the steering wheel with leather, gives 10-way power to the driver's seat and 6-way power to the front-passenger seat, introduces an upgraded SYNC system (i.e., SYNC 3), and adds dual-zone automatic climate control. At the Titanium trim level, the Edge gets leather seat trim, front-seat heating ability, driver-seat memory, a rear-seat back release feature called EasyFold, an upgrade to 10-way power on the front-passenger seat, an additional smart-charging USB port, two driver-configurable 4.2-inch LCD displays in the instrument cluster, and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system. Only the ST gets Miko inserts in the leather seat trim, a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel with silver stitching and ST logo, a universal garage-door opener, remote start, and a wireless charging pad.

2019 Edge Power & Performance

2019 Ford Edge Exterior FrontThe SE, SEL, and Titanium trims of the 2019 Ford Edge are powered by a twin-scroll turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline 4-cylinder engine that supplies 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. The ST is uniquely powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 that delivers 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. Each engine comes with auto stop-start technology to eliminate idling, as well as an 8-speed automatic transmission, which includes a brand-new rotary gear shifter. While front-wheel drive is standard on the SE, SEL, and Titanium, all-wheel drive is standard on the ST. (You can opt for the all-wheel drivetrain on the non-ST trims.) To maximize the Edge fuel economy at 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, go with a non-ST trim with front-wheel drive.

The 2019 Ford Edge has a Long List of Safety Features

2019 Ford Edge Exterior RearStandard safety features include a rearview camera, an SOS post-crash alert system, front safety belt reminder technology (Belt-Minder), the AdvanceTrac vehicle stability management system with roll stability and curve control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, a blind spot information system with rear cross-traffic alert, a lane keeping system, MyKey for monitoring teen-driver habits, hill start assist, a theft-deterrent system that includes the aforementioned remote keyless entry system and a keyless entry pad, and eight airbags (dual front impact airbags, dual knee airbags, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and dual roof-mounted side curtain airbags). Adaptive cruise control, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and evasive steering assist are new standard safety features for 2019. Unique to the Titanium is a perimeter alarm, which boosts the theft-deterrent system.
