Car Not Accelerating

Mechanical problems in your car can cause a variety of different symptoms. One issue that you may notice with your vehicle is that it is suddenly slower to accelerate when you step on the gas. Problems with acceleration can be linked to a few different causes. Unless you have mechanical skills to start with, it can be challenging to pinpoint the exact cause of your car's issues. However, you can consider these common problems as possible sources of slow acceleration.

Dirty Oxygen Sensor or Mass Air Flow Sensor

If either the oxygen or mass airflow sensor in your vehicle breaks or becomes dirty, poor acceleration is one symptom you will likely notice. Additionally, the engine light might illuminate the dashboard. The car may also have problems starting and seem to generally run poorly. The oxygen sensor and mass airflow sensor are designed to provide the engine with adequate amounts of air and oxygen so that it can run smoothly.

Malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor

The throttle position sensor may be a small component, but it plays a significant role in your car's performance. The throttle position sensor is a small sensor connected to a computer in the car's engine. The sensor detects fuel levels in the vehicle and provides the engine with the right amount of fuel that it needs to perform at its best in various situations. The sensor can get covered with dirt and dust, affecting its ability to adequately monitor fuel levels. The sensor may also break and need to be replaced.

Clogged Fuel Filter

The fuel filter is a part of the engine that helps keep it clean and ensures it runs smoothly. The fuel filter is designed to catch harmful particles before they get into the engine and fuel system. Dirt, pollen, dust, leaves, and other debris are all normally stopped by the fuel filter. However, if the fuel filter becomes too dirty, it won't keep those particles from getting into the engine and clogging the fuel lines.

Dirty Air Filter

Another important filter in the engine is the air filter. The air filter pulls contaminants out of the air that enters the car so that they don't get into the engine. Like the fuel filter, the air filter can become dirty, which means that it can't trap and eliminate particles before they enter the engine.

Ford Creates New Headlight Systems that Help Spot People & Animals at Night

Ford is attempting to improve nighttime driving by creating two new headlight systems that will be able to identify pedestrians, animals and potential hazards. Known as Advanced Front Lighting System and Spot Lighting, the technologies utilize cameras to locate upcoming dangers and hard-to-see junctions, and illuminate the road allowing drivers to easily spot each one.

Advanced Front Lighting System

Ford's all-new Advanced Front Lighting System uses camera-based technology to improve visibility at night. Located in the rearview mirror base, the camera can identify lane markings and predict upcoming curves in the road. When the car approaches a junction or…
